My name is Davide Penna — I’m a musician, singer, and audio engineer.
I’ve been passionate about music since childhood, starting classical piano lessons at the age of 9. At 15, I made the switch to electric guitar, driven by a deep connection with the instrument and inspired by artists like Steve Vai and Dream Theater.
Over the years, I’ve studied with several teachers, including Beppe Chiolerio, and took advanced guitar lessons with Fabrizio “Bicio” Leo and Marco Sfogli.
In 2007, I founded MirrorMaze, a progressive metal band with which I’ve released several records and toured across Italy and Europe, sharing the stage with bands like Neal Morse Band, Haken, Wishbone Ash, Labyrinth, and more.
Alongside this, I’ve performed as a guitarist in a variety of cover bands, working with prominent Italian artists such as Alberto Rocchetti, Andrea Innesto, Claudio Golinelli, and Clara Moroni.
Since 2013, I’ve also worked professionally as a sound engineer. After earning my official certification and Steinberg Cubase trainer qualification (via MusicLab), I opened my own recording studio, Audiorizon, in 2018.
Since 2014, I’ve been the official stage manager and sound engineer for the “Best of…” DVD series of the international festival “2Days Prog + 1” in Veruno. I manage live recordings, mixing, and mastering for the festival’s performances, having worked with legendary acts like Uriah Heep, Symphony X, Pain of Salvation, Freak Kitchen, Spock’s Beard, Focus, Leprous, Area, Procol Harum, and many others (check out the Media/Video page for more).
In 2016, I joined PFM (Premiata Forneria Marconi) as a backliner and stage technician for their European tour, a role I also held during Loredana Bertè’s 2017 summer tour.
In 2019, I had the pleasure of recording and mixing two tracks for Banco del Mutuo Soccorso‘s comeback album Transiberiana, released by Sony/Inside Out Music.
Today, I work full-time as a musician, vocal coach, session singer, audio engineer, and producer, operating out of my studio Audiorizon. I manage projects ranging from pop, rock, prog, and metal, covering both studio production and live sound.
